Participation Guide

Before the meeting

Zoom meeting details will be sent out to the mailing list at ~16.00 GMT the day before the scheduled talk. For late sign-ups, you can access the meeting details by registering for a website account and going through the login-only pages.

You can either download the app and set up a personal Zoom account to get into the meetings, or go via your browser to https://zoom.us/join if you can’t install Zoom.

Arrive in the Zoom session a few minutes prior to the presentation start time. When you sign into the Zoom meeting, please use your full name (in Latin/English characters if possible) so we know who you are during the discussion.

You will be admitted by the hosts when everything’s is ready. Please double-check your audio is muted when you log in.

During the meeting

In Zoom, you can keep the presenter’s video link in a small window.

Please DO NOT record or take screenshots of the presentation. We will block this functionality in Zoom and chase up any violations of this.

During the discussion, participants can submit questions to the speaker via the chat window in Zoom. There are three options here:

Ask the question yourself: Type: a short version of the question and the host will call you out and unmute you (enable audio!)

Host reads your name and question: Type: host/ (your full question)

Host reads your question anonymously: Type: anon/ (your full question)

After the meeting: Recordings

Speakers have the option of having their presentation recorded and made available on the Ore Deposits Hub Youtube channel for as long as they choose, either as public or unlisted links sent out to the mailing list the day after the talk.

Not all talks will be recorded and posted.

If a talk is posted, we will post the discussion recording for 7 days in a seperate video which will only be accessible via a link sent to the Ore Deposits Hub mailing list. We will not show any video of participants. If you would like us to cut a question from the discussion recording, email us about it within 12 hrs of the talk.

Zoom Security

A lot of fuss has recently been made over the security of Zoom, and the desktop app has consequently been banned by some organisations. If your organisation has banned the Zoom app, you should be able to join meetings via the browser https://zoom.us/join

These security issues are generally only relevant to meetings which require state-level end-to-end encryption, and open meetings without passwords and basic security precautions. Ore Deposits Hub meetings could not function on most computers if live video encryption–decryption was necessary, and since the beginning, we have taken all possible security precautions to prevent meeting disruptions.

Email Sign Up

If you would like to give a presentation, you can submit a request on our page for speakers or email us directly with your name, affiliation, the title, and the proposed time and date at info@oredepositshub.com .
