INEX – RDC (Initiative pour l’ exploration geologique du Congo) is a non-profit organization based in Kinshasa, DRC since 2016. They are focused on finding research projects, collaborators, and funding for economic geology and mineral exploration projects throughout the DRC. The primary goal of INEX is to advance the future of geoscience research in the DRC by supporting students and academic research through collaboration initiatives. You can contact them through their website www.inex-rdc.com/contacts

Call for projects 2021 for the enhancement of the geological knowledge and ore deposit atlas of the Central Kongo, Bandundu and Equator Provinces

As part of its contribution to the promotion, development and dissemination of geological research, INEX provides technical and financial support for research projects, which are peer-reviewed within an evaluation process. Funding levels are currently earmarked for laboratory analyses and some field costs.

Kimberlite and Gold Explorations in Central Kongo, Bandundu, Kasai and Equator Provinces

We are searching for scientific collaborators and mineral exploration activists with interest in 1) kimberlite and 2) Gold exploration. We are interested in studying the mantle beneath the great Congo craton through Kimberlite Mineral Indicators (KIM) and also determining the formation history, emplacement mechanisms of the Kimberlite, and geochemical exploration criteria for diamond-bearing kimberlites in the DRC. The proposed project includes:

  • Assembling available data and archived KIMs from industry
  • Detailed sampling and field mapping to identify regional structural zones which control kimberlite diapir emplacement
  • Detailed petrographical analyses to determine stages of magmatism and crystallization of primary and accessory phases
  • Whole rock geochemistry and radiogenic isotopic analyses to determine sources of kimberlite melt and xenoliths.
  • Geothermo-barometry data analysis to the determine the thermal evolution of the central African lithosphere

The research on gold exploration is already underway. The investigation has started in the western part of the country (Kongo Central and Equator provinces) and will be extended to Eastern part specifically in the Kibalien and Kibarien belts.
