Submit a presentation request
We would like to hear from ore deposit geoscientists at all professional levels, from across the globe. Our only requirement is that you give a well-prepared talk, which is of broad interest and features new results or synthesis. Speakers from minority or underrepresented backgrounds, or who do not commonly attend international conferences are especially encouraged to submit for a talk. Fill in the form below, or send us an email directly at info@oredepositshub.com.
TopicNew ore deposit geoscience research or synthesis, in a similar style to those given at the specialist conferences (e.g. SEG/SGA/GRC). Presentations are welcome from both academic and industry geoscientists, however, please keep in mind that any promotion of commercial projects should sit within a context of generally-applicable science or practices.
Audience
Specialist ore deposit geoscientists from both an academic and industry background. Expect a broad range of qualifications and deposit-type specializations, but there is no need to recall Mineral Resources 101. Our current audience is ~ 25% Students, 25% Research, 40% industry, and 10% survey geoscientists
Presentation
Presentations will be given online through Zoom meetings https://zoom.us/
If you don’t have one already, you’ll need to sign up for a free account. Meetings will be hosted by Ore Deposits Hub and login details will be communicated via the mailing list the day before. You will share your screen via Zoom during the presentation but you can use whichever presentation software you like. Your cursor is your ‘laser pointer’, and most attendees will appreciate watching your webcam video feed alongside.
Deep Dive Seminars: Presentations should be 30 minutes in length, and will be followed by a 30 minute discussion.
Research Exchange Seminars: Presentations should be a maximum of 10 minutes each, to ensure that everyone has a fair chance to speak. The talks (three total) will be followed by a 30 minute discussion.
Please don’t significantly overrun this time – we have a mute button and are not afraid to use it!
READ ME: Special advice for preparing online presentations
– A widescreen 16:9 format combined with a rectangular box left free of content in the upper right corner of the screen gives you the most space. 4:3 format also works, and will leave some space for a video feed, but will also result in black strips down the sides of your slides. Check YouTube for examples of how the video looks.
– During slide transitions: expect a 2–5 second delay between what you do/see and what the audience sees, but almost no audio delay. Because of this, do not use animations and cross-faded slide transitions, and in general use less slides and pause more after changing slides. Simple, slow and steady works best.
Discussion
The discussion/Q&A will be moderated by your two Ore Deposits Hub hosts. Participants will submit questions via the chat window. The hosts will then allow the questioners to ask their questions, or will read them out on their behalf.
Recordings
Recordings directly through the Zoom functionality will be blocked, and we will request that no private recordings or screenshots are taken. Any unofficial distribution will be swiftly chased up. However, it is impossible to enforce this 100%. Because of this, the speaker can choose to have the presentation officially recorded and posted on the Ore Deposits Hub Youtube channel for as long as they want. You retain complete control and copyright over the recording, and can ask for it be taken down at any time. We can also cut out specific sections of the talk at your request.
We generally offer three recording options for the main presentation, and we are flexible with how long talks stay at each level.
- Fully public listing (searchable on YouTube)
- Unlisted listing (unsearchable) emailed out to our mailing list and available in the login-only archive.
- No listing (but can give a private link)
Unless you have an issue with it, we will post duplicate recordings on our Youku channel, so viewers in countries where YouTube is not accessible can access them (e.g. China). Unlisted videos are stored as private videos with the password known only to our website registered users.
